Tallow & Skincare Aftercare: Storage and Product Care

Organic tallow skincare products outdoors with natural background.

Pure tallow, formulated skincare and soap bars have different storage needs. Looking after each product appropriately helps keep it in good condition while you use it.

Pure tallow

How should I store pure tallow?

Pure tallow is best kept in the fridge with the lid securely closed.

It can also be frozen if you need to store it for longer.

How long should I keep pure tallow?

We recommend using pure tallow within six months of production.

Tallow does not improve with age. Like other fats, its quality can deteriorate over time, so it is better to keep it refrigerated and use it while it is fresh rather than storing it unnecessarily.

Tallow skin balms

Why can my balm change colour or consistency?

Our balms combine tallow with rosehip seed oil, each with different natural characteristics and colour.

We do not use synthetic preservatives in these formulations, so you may notice changes in colour, variations in colour patterns and differences in consistency over time.

Temperature also affects consistency. Your balm may become softer in warmer conditions and firmer when it is cooler.

These changes are part of the physical nature of the formulation and do not mean that every pot will look or feel exactly the same throughout its use.

How should I store my balm?

Store your balm at room temperature with the lid on when not in use.

There is no need to refrigerate a balm simply because it contains tallow. Pure tallow and a finished skincare formulation have different storage recommendations.

How long should I keep my balm?

We recommend using your balm regularly and preferably within a few months, rather than storing it for long periods.

Over time, the balm may gradually dry out and its consistency may deteriorate. Our balms do not improve with age, so they are best used while their texture and consistency are at their best.

Always follow the information shown on the individual product packaging.

When is a good time to use a balm?

Balms can be used whenever your skin needs them, including after washing, bathing or showering. Start with a small amount and massage it into the skin, adding more only if needed.

Tallow soap bars

How should I look after a soap bar once I have started using it?

Allow the bar to dry between uses on a draining soap dish.

Avoid leaving the soap sitting in water. Allowing it to drain and dry between washes helps look after the bar while it is in use.

How should I store unused soap bars?

Keep unused soap bars somewhere cool and dry until you are ready to use them.

For more information about the soap itself, see Why Our All-in-One Tallow Soap Bar Is Different.
