Our Sustainable Approach

Hayes Meadow sustainable approach – regenerative farming and tallow skincare in Devon.

The Hayes Meadow Way.

At Hayes Meadow, sustainability isn’t a policy — it’s a promise.
From the grass beneath our cattle to the recyclable card that wraps our balms, every choice we make is guided by one principle: to give back more than we take.

We see our farm, our animals, and our skincare as one connected system — each nourishing the other and helping to create a greener, slower, and more sustainable world.

Farming That Heals the Land

Our journey begins in the pasture. We raise Red Ruby Devon cattle on diverse, species-rich grasslands, using regenerative farming methods that build soil health, store carbon, and bring wildlife back to our meadows.

We never use chemical fertilisers, pesticides, or imported feeds. Instead, our herd grazes in small, rotating groups so the land can rest and regenerate. As a result, our animals stay healthier, the soil grows stronger, and a truly sustainable cycle emerges — one that supports life from the ground up.

Moreover, this approach strengthens our local ecosystem. Wildflowers return, birds nest safely, and insects thrive. In the end, these are the small victories that make sustainability meaningful.

Skincare Rooted in Responsibility

Our tallow skincare follows the same principles as our farming — simplicity, integrity, and zero waste.
We use grass-fed tallow, gently rendered on the farm, and blend it with organic carrier oils and botanicals to create natural balms that care for your skin and the planet.

Furthermore, every product is packaged in recyclable card containers, and shipped in minimal, compostable materials. Therefore, our products not only nourish the skin but also respect the environment.

In addition, we design our formulations to be fully biodegradable, ensuring nothing harmful returns to the earth. Our goal is a closed-loop system where everything we make can be safely reused, recycled, or composted.

Renewable Energy & Low Waste

We power our production using renewable energy sources and constantly look for new ways to reduce waste.

  • Our Butchery and Cosmetic waste is composted or reused.
  • Card packaging and paper labels are recyclable and biodegradable.
  • Deliveries are consolidated to reduce transport impact.

Because of this, our carbon footprint remains small even as our product range grows.
Consequently, each step of our process aligns with our mission: to protect the planet while crafting quality skincare.

Moreover, our low-waste ethos encourages creativity. We’re always testing new materials and energy-saving practices that help us do more with less.

From Soil to Skin — One Honest Process

Sustainability, to us, is circular. In other words, what begins in the pasture ends up in nourishment — for skin, body, and earth.
Our work is small-scale, human-centred, and guided by transparency. That’s why we share our process openly, from field to finished balm.

Ultimately, when you choose Hayes Meadow, you choose products that reflect the same world you want to protect.

Our Ongoing Commitment

We know sustainability isn’t a finish line — it’s a journey.
Each season, we make small improvements: planting new hedgerows, expanding pollinator habitats, testing biodegradable processes, and refining our production and packaging to stay true to our values.

At the same time, we continue to learn from the land itself. Because nature knows balance better than any brand, we follow its lead — slowly, carefully, and always with respect.

In the long run, every mindful step helps us move closer to our vision: beauty with purpose, and skincare that restores what it touches..
